It's the Little Things...

I bought new windshield wiper blades for my Geo. I got tired of the constant shpritzing and ducking around in the car trying to see over/under the spots that weren't getting clean. Between those and the new tires, it feels like a new car.

Meanwhile, somehow my new winter gloves got slashed. It started as a little tear over the middle knuckle on the right glove, which I promptly ignored, hoping it would "heal." Of course, it didn't and now it's spread to a fully mature gash across all four knuckles, and the stuffing is starting to come out. I thought about using duct tape, but I figured it'd be a little tacky, so I went to Target to buy a new pair.

Guess what. They don't sell gloves at Target any more. Nor do they sell them at K-Mart, Walmart, Kohls, or just about any other major store. Gloves are "out of season" now. Yes. With buckets of snow coming down every day (enough already with all the snow!) gloves, hats, and even coats are out of season. The best I can do is buy a pair of shorts or a swimming suit and wrap that around my hands.

Well, there's always duct tape.

Try poking around in the clearance bins, or oddlot stores. I'm not sure what they have in WI but I just picked up a pair of gloves at Amazing Savings for $1!

For now I'd go with the duct tape I think it looks manly.

There are no gloves at Kohl's in Wisconsin. In Maryland this is the best time of year to buy them (at Kohl's)!

What about Landsend's clearance?

I just checked..go to www.landsend.com...men...great deals...
They have gloves for $10. Ok, extremely expensive for gloves, but they will take them back/replace them no matter what!

You're right. It is the little things.

For example, I've had a runny nose, productive cough and malaise with a capital mem for two weeks. A couple of days ago I got severe left flank pleuritic pain. Yesterday I finally decided to stop being stupid and actually see a doctor. I've got a left (likely parapneumonic) pleural effusion!

Hurray!

I hope you find some gloves and that you don't get pneumonia.

Holy Crap, DB, that doesn't sound like a LITTLE thing! Take care of that!

eees: Good idea. I just ordered a pair from Landsend. Before I did that, I did call one of the local outlets. They didn't have any in stock. So it's coming by mail. Problem is that it may be spring before they arrive!

ifuncused, thanks, but I don't really need a pair of girls' mittens.

PT: You can borrow our gloves. We never use them. Give me notice if you want them because I'll have to search the garage to find them.

Winter clothing season ended in November. Now it's all beachwear and golf shorts. Get with the fashion calendar.

Gloves? What are those for?

I actually laugh when I see them in the stores here since no one ever wears them in Miami! Hope you were able to find some (or some duct tape).

Glad I could be of service PT!
You know, you could always put your new gloves (you know, the ones that will finally arrive during the summer ;)) into a drawer so you can get a headstart on losing them for the following winter.. ;)

If you get an early start on the Pesach cleaning, you can find the ones your sons lost in November.

PT: You are funny....believe it or not, they actually sell more than just girly mittens. Try asking Fudge to buy a pair for you in NYC, I am sure she encounters many vendors while walking the streets

PT - you know that Sears owns LandsEnd, or at least did. You might want to check there too.

There is a silver lining to the stores bringing out all the spring and summer lines now...you can get some excellent sales on the winter clothes. Kohls and Target had an unbelievable sale - almost all their winter clothes marked down 80%.

Even if the kids outgrow the clothes, for $3, I will gladly passed it on to charity.

Yesterday it was so hot I needed gloves to touch the door handle on my car.

As a helpful safety tip latex gloves are not quite adequate for this sort of thing.

PsychoToddler said...

We're latex-free around here.

My husband's two cents: Just replace the duct tape with athletic tape, call it the latest sports fashion and you're good. ;-)

Hmmmm Do they even sell gloves in LA?

Sheesh its hot today.

PT-how about sending over those swimming shorts my way.

The gloves came. So did the 60 degree weather. Maybe Target was right.

I was in a hurry to get somewhere, can't remember where now, that's when my wiper decided to break on the driver side, the blade broke completely off. I was about seven miles to the nearest auto store, half a mile out it started snowing those big messy white flakes (in never snows around here, or never did before that day). I ended up driving like Ace Ventura with my head out the window.

Wick, my first car, the infamous 74 Buick Apollo, had, in addition to a leaky roof patched with bookbinding tape, faulty windshield wipers that would go out when most needed.

I remember a very distinct and very rainy night when I had to drive up the West Side Highway with my head out the window because I couldn't see otherwise.

Scary stuff.
