Zdravo. That's Serbian for "hello." I try to learn a few words in each of my foreign patient's languages. I should at least be able to say "hello" and "goodbye" to them.
Pretty pathetic considering my mom is fluent in 6 languages. I'm a product of the American Day School system. Oh well.

Saying hello is more important for a doctor than saying goodbye, you never know how that one will be interpreted.
So how do you say it in Hmong?
DO BIST GUT MESHIGAH VE' DYN KLIENER
I can almost understand fluent Jewish Mother Talking. I'm not great at responding, but I can comprehend most of what they say. Once you get past the nagging and complaining, you can start to put sentences together.

Safranit: Hmong goodbye: Mus zoo
Amshinover: Sorry, I don't speak German
vat I said vaz "you are [strongly] psychotic much like your toddler"
(lets try posting again)
I don't see Doctors like you very much anymore. Seeing patients as human beings. Listening to them tell you their symptoms along with their life story, learning hello and good bye in their language. Wish you were my doctor.
Here's a little followup:
I waltzed into the room this morning and proclaimed, "Zdravo!"
The patient's daughter, whom I had not met, smiled and responded "Zdravo!"
And then she launched a barrage of questions in Serbian at me.
Oh Well.
